Debate Off – Reception for Supporters at Crown Hotel Thursday Night – Discount Hotel Rooms

I want to thank all of you from around the state for your tireless efforts to help us win the Chairmanship of the Ohio Republican Party. Thank you for your continued prayers, emails and phone calls on my behalf.  I am so very thankful.  I can report to you that it does not look like there will be a third candidate at this time, unless that candidate comes from a motion from the floor.  The suggestion that Dale Fellows could be a compromise candidate had not gained any traction.

However, news reports are indicating that Mr. Borges will have all $164,000 of his back taxes paid by Thursday in compliance with the request that Secretary of State Jon Husted made earlier this week.  If that is true, then that indicates that the Party leadership is sticking with Mr. Borges as their pick for Chairman. I am picking up votes and I have an important conference call tonight with Central Committee members in which I hope to win more votes.  So, we are in it to win it and we will fight through the end.

As you may have read, this morning I challenged Mr. Borges to a debate in front of the State Central Committee Members at a meeting that is scheduled for Thursday night.  We received an email around noon today indicating that the meeting for State Central Committee members is in fact not a Party sponsored function, but is instead a private meeting being held by Chairman Bennett and National Committeewoman Jo Ann Davidson, and that neither I, nor Mr. Borges are invited to attend. When asked, I was told that they would not host a debate between the candidates because their agenda was full.  While I feel strongly that Central Committee Members having the ability to ask questions of both candidates prior to Friday’s vote should be a priority, they were not willing to allow that to happen. Therefore the Debate will not take place.  (See email below)

However, we know that many of you are planning to come down on Friday morning to attend the meeting where the party will vote for Chairman at the Westin Inn at 310 South High Street in Columbus, OH.   Since many of you have quite a drive, Nan and I decided that we would host a reception for those of you who will be coming Thursday night just to have a chance to say thanks for your support.  We will headquarter at the Crown Plaza Hotel at 33 East Nationwide Blvd. 43215 in Columbus and, thanks to our dear friend Tanya Baker who has helped so much with our We the People Conventions, we have negotiated a $94 per night room rate.  To book your room, call 614-461-4100 and tell them our Group Code is GCD or GOP Candidate. That will get you the discount rate.

We will have coffee and water at a reception in the Ball Room of the Crown Plaza Hotel starting at 7:00 PM and going until 9:00 PM Thursday night.  If you live in the Columbus area, stop in and say hello.  If you are coming from out of town, stop by after you check in to your room. We will then go over to the Westin for the meeting on Friday morning.

Please note, if you are going to the State Central Committee meeting on Friday, please get there by 9:30 AM as the seating will be on a first come-first seated basis. Keep up the calls and let’s see if we can make this happen!

All the Best,

Tom Zawistowski
Candidate for Chairman of the Ohio Republican Party
