Citizens for Community Values Action Recommends Zawistowski for ORP Chair

Kent – Tom Zawistowski, Candidate for Chairman of the Ohio Republican Party, announced today that he had received the backing of Phil Buress and Citizens for Community Values Action a key player in the Ohio Republican Party. CCVA was the point group in last year’s election that operated get out the vote centers across the state to motivate social conservatives to turn out to vote. It also operated the Awake 88 effort which evolved Citizens for Community Values Action going around the state to all 88 counties to engage pastors and churches.

Phil Buress and CCVA stated in their letter to the Ohio Republican Central Committee Members that “All issues are not and should not be considered equal. The Republican Party platform makes their stance on abortion and marriage very clear.  We run the risk of losing a quarter of the Republican support in this state if the chairman of the party that we elect treats these two issues as equal to all other issues.  The support that I am referring to is the group who identify themselves as Evangelical-Christian voters.”  Phil Buress went on to say “At this critical time in our history, we need a candidate to serve as Chairman who has a proven history of supporting the party’s core issues and these two critical issues. We need to elect a chairman that can bring everyone in the party together, from the party faithful to Evangelicals to everyone in between who believes in the party platform. We need a leader that has a history of working to protect innocent life and marriage and not someone who merely talks about doing so. Mr. Matt Borges is not that man. If you feel that you must vote now, then we recommend Tom Zawistowski for ORP Chairman.”

In accepting the recommendation, Zawistowski said “I thank Phil Buress and Citizens for Community Values Action for their support. More importantly I thank them for reminding the State Central Committee members of the gravity of this vote.  Nobody knows better that Phil Burress how important the Evangelical Christian base is to the Ohio Republican Party.  Phil and I also know that their is tremendous opportunity to grow our republican base in the religious community and I look forward to working with CCVA to do just that as Chairman of the Ohio Republican Party.”
